SUSTAINABILITY

THE MAISON

To preserve the beauty of life on earth.

HOW WE DO SUSTAINABILITY

OUR PURPOSE

Being a brand with origins in Finland, we instinctively have a profound appreciation for nature, and therefore also sustainability. Our purpose with sustainability is, simply put, to preserve the beauty of life on earth. We acknowledge that the way to sustainability is done slowly, but surely. And making sure every step is done right from the beginning is what counts. This is why we take sustainability not as a goal, but rather as an inspiring journey.

Everyday, step by step as we grow as a brand, the more enthusiastic we are to be able to discover and incorporate new, innovative sustainable practices into our ways of working and hopefully lead the fashion industry and our world into a renewed path towards a slower, more meaningful, beautiful future with pure green nature, and us, people all over the world leading a happy and healthy life.

Here's how we take our little, but important, steps in the journey of sustainability today.

FABRIC RESOURCING

FABRICS WITH A LONG LIFESPAN

When choosing fabrics we look for materials that have a long lifespan. Meaning we want to provide our consumers with a beautiful piece of clothing that with the right care can be worn over and over while maintaining its quality during years.

INNOVATIVE FIBERS IN THE LOOP

We are very interested in discovering and collaborating with innovative companies producing fabrics that are made from sustainable fibres.

PRODUCTION

MADE-TO-MEASURE

The pieces we produce for our customers today are made-to-measure. This gives us a chance to operate with minimal waste and to have no dead-stock. Also, by calculating precisely the amount of materials in the creation process, we ensure that there is a minimum of fabric left over. Any left over is preserved for potential use in the future. All production is done in Paris, France and Finland.

SMALL QUANTITIES

When it comes to collections and presentations, we produce in a slow and sustainable way. This means creating smaller quantity of collections and looks, putting an emphasis on quality and designing for the sake of a purpose and an idea that is meaningful.

LESS IS MORE

CURATED, INSTEAD OF CROWDED

Rather than having a crowded wardrobe, we want to lead our consumers towards the idea of a curated wardrobe. A wardrobe filled with beautiful timeless pieces that you can combine and recreate new beautiful looks over the years along with the trends that come and go.

INSPIRE OUR CONSUMERS TO APPRECIATE VALUE

There is a great amount of work that goes into making a couture garment, but just alike, the same goes for example to the making of a ready-to-wear shirt. Of course the amount of working hours is different, but there are many hours and many procedures in both. What we want to do is to show and explain our customers the work that goes into making the piece of clothing they invest in.

It is important for us to make the consumer understand the process, learn to truly admire and value all of the work that goes into a well-made product, and this way, make the consumer want to invest in a piece to look after for years.

COULD YOU DOUBLE THE LIFETIME OF YOUR CLOTHING ?

According to an article by The Finnish Fashion & Textile, the average lifespan of clothing is now more than a third shorter than in 2000. In 2017, the Ellen MacArhur Foundation, specialising in international circular economy, published a study showing that clothes are still used an average of 160 times. In practice, this means more than three years if a product is worn once a week.

A 44% reduction in carbon emissions from the textile industry could be achieved simply by doubling the lifetime of products.

CREATIVITY

DESIGN WITH PURPOSE

Rather than designing for the sake of there just being something, we design for a purpose. An idea, with a story and meaning behind that is authentic and comes alive in the clothing.

'' THINK INSIDE THE BOX ''

We like to say think inside the box. Sometimes when using sustainable materials or sustainable ways to work it forces us to think in a more restricted way, and if anything, this can often increase creativity and innovation.

GOAL

INSPIRE

Our goal is to inspire our consumers to participate in the journey of sustainability. With the practices we use and the products we create, we want to make our consumers see how beautiful sustainable can be and feel.

NAVIGATE TO A NEWER BEAUTIFUL PATH

Our goal is to do our little, yet important, part in bringing the fashion industry and our world in general towards a slower and more sustainable way of living. A way of living, where we are more present in the moment, where we appreciate value and quality over quantity and where the life we live is more stable and secure for all of us all over the world.
