-39 DEGREES OF LIGHT

COUTURE COLLECTION

COUTURE

-39 DEGREES OF LIGHT

The collection -39 Degrees of Light is inspired by the profound origins of the designer Katariina Prinz. The incredible white, soft, snowy winter nature of Finland in the Northern Hemisphere and the transformation of light from golden mornings to cool-rose sunsets merged with touches of geometrical influences of the architectures created by the late Ieoh Ming Pei.

THE COLLECTION THROUGH KATARIINA'S EYES

LAPLAND AND LIGHT

''Coming from Finland, I naturally have a strong relation to the nature. The nature and its incredible captivating beauty always inspires me.

During the research for this debut couture collection I dove deep into my roots; where I come from, what exactly there is that never goes away, always comes alive when I talk about home.

For me it was definitely the incredibly beautiful winter nature and the light of it. The calmness and feeling of harmony it gives me.''

THE INSPIRATION

VOLUMES OF SNOW AND TRANSFORMATION OF LIGHT

The colors of the collection take inspiration from the beautiful transformation of light in the Northern Hemisphere during winter. The way the light changes from golden early mornings to a light blue, crystal white noon. From light cool-rose afternoons, later turning, not entirely black, but to a beautiful variation of grey because of the reflection of white snow at night.

The volumes of the silhouettes are inspired by the incredible different volumes of snow in Lapland. The varying character of snow; how it exists in so many different forms and always recreates itself to a new form.

SAVOIR-FAIRE

THE KNOW-HOW

The savoir-faire lies at the heart of the -39 Degrees of Light couture collection. From innovative embroidery to re-inspired pleats, exquisite textile creations and feather details.

PLEATS

RE-IMAGINED PLEATS FOR VOLUME AND HEAVENLY LIGHT MOVEMENT

Inspired from the snow that is left behind after a wind storm and very cold weather. For The Little White Dress pleats were re-imagined from smaller pleats and transformed to bigger pleats changing in size. The Little White Dress has three rows of pleats with each row larger than the other creating at the same time volume and a beautiful light movement to the dress.

FEATHERS

OSTRICH FEATHERS AND WOOL

Like the frost and ice forming onto glass during extreme cold temperatures creating feather like forms, the collection's wool-cashmere crop sweater is covered from top with ostrich feathers like a fluffy tree covered with amounts and amounts of snow, leaving the extra long sleeves bare like the leafless branches of a beautiful winter birch. Each ostrich feather is embedded into the wool-cashmere texture creating a composition of softness and warmth.

REWORKED FEATHERS

COOL-ROSE

To give a final breezy fluttering effect to the immense L'Heaven Coat, feathers are stripped down leaving only the tip of the feather rachis covered with rose coloured barbs, and then added to the wristbands with little Swarovski crystals.

EMBROIDERY

EMERALD CUT DIAMONDS

At its best, a clear form of ice hit by a strong ray of sun can shine as strong as the most beautifully cut diamonds. Katariina Prinz imagined emerald cut diamonds to be embroidered on the top of the Delicate Dawn Dress that would reflect light in a beautifully striking way just like a real diamond would.

Created together with the guidance of Maison Lesage, each emerald cut diamond is embroidered with glass pearls, Swarovski crystals and hand cut silver sequin facets with each single facet cut individually. All together the Emerald Cut Embroidery consists of around 3380 elements and a total of 160 hours of craftsmanship leaving a line of striking and sparkling diamonds on the top of the Delicate Dawn dress.

INFINITE SPARKLE

TULLES ON TULLES

To create a sparkle like the beautiful crystalised snow on the ground, layers of tulle with different glimmer are put together creating new different variations of sparkle. Like in the final piece of the collection, the wedding dress, each facet of the pyramids are covered with a different set of tulles making a magical effect of flying sparkle just like little crystals on the ground.

'' It's this sort of dream... inspired by the incredible winter of Lapland and its atmosphere, surrounded by comfort for women in the form of couture. ''
